Pencil drawings Alami. Exploring Nature a Little Differently

Pencil drawings Alami is about applying the traditional Balinese Painting method to different mediums. It is a meditative process and I found myself with plenty of time for that during the 2020 initial lock down period of the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia. Without access to the traditional tools usually available, my aunt suggested I colour in books with her to fill our time and relax. The Faber Castel Polychromos sets available in my aunt’s art supplies turned out to be quite the lucky find. I created a series of animals that I have named Alam-i©. As they express everything oneness with Nature.

Pencil drawings Alami uses Faber Castel Polychromos. I made some base sketches and followed through with some of my ideas. Following the same method I would use when painting in the Balinese traditional way. I began with base colour black and modelled the subjects. Spending more time on shading in the black base. The only variant was not applying any white pencil but using the white base of the paper, leaving it untouched, much like in watercolour paintings, but the remaining methodology remained the same.
