Description
Meeped, by Delo.
The original painting ‘Meeped by Delo’ employs the Kamasan technique from Klungkung. Well known for its classical linearity and simplicity of colour application. Kamasan technique is otherwise known as Wayang painting. Kamasan paintings depict stories from both the Mahabharata and other Indian epics as well as the of local origin. Often relating the lives of deities, royal houses as well as common families on occasion.
Artist Statement
Ceremony. Meeped is still part of Galungan Ceremony, after the main ceremony is completed. Everyone goes to temple bringing offerings in a line together. It is this togetherness, this unity that at the moment, is not allowed. A result of the Covid Pandemic.
That joy of togetherness is gone, after there is Pandemic. Though it had started to already dissppear before there was Corona, but after Corona, it is worse. Maybe our joy in our traditions have started to disappear already, and maybe that’s why we are being given a reminder.
Because we say we do not have enough time to go there. Now we are given a lot of time to go there. To go meet our own Creator.
