I am not a very productive artist. It does not mean to say that I do not have jobs I have work. But even by my measure, I am not as productive as many other artists that I know. I am unable to create work day in and day out. I am only able to create works when there is something niggling at me and I have something to say. Something I am curious about. This is my character.
Loka Suara

Insightful and Peculiar
The first time we were touched by the depth and warmth of his insightful peculiarities was when we discussed Shades of Stone and Love. The anecdotal way he shares the inspirations behind each of his works. They are everyday observations. Dry, to some but poignant and humorous at the same time. I suspect there is an absurdist inside the creative process of Loka Suara. But it is subtle and deeply rooted in earth and sky and accepting of all in between.

Art and Appetitte
I do not like to paint something that is burdened by issues of composition. I like to have a free space, its like one table with too many options to eat you can lose your appetitie. Sometimes just with one type of food, it can really whett your appetite.

Perfect Imperfections
“That which is not perfect is like cigarettes. They say smoking is a sickness. Bad for your lungs. Some smoke until they are old and they are fine. As simple as that. Rightness and perspectives are always grey. Wherever you choose to stand, there is always a different perspective. The factory of tobacco company is one of the largest industries and employs hundreds and thousands of people. In art, maybe there are instances where this example may apply as well. The claim to ‘rightness’ and ‘best is never perfect. Because human beings are ignorant and have limitations. We should just assume we do not know much.” ~ Loka Suara

“He is a thinker. One does not always see it. He has a way of seeing things in a very contemporary way but behind it, it is never separate from the roots of his traditional heritage. Slow but quick. He is a paradox in a way. When nothing is getting his interest he is slow. You can see him sitting down and just being quite still. But then when it’s the moment, he’s right in the moment and will move quickly in that moment.” ~ Agus Kama Loedin
