Architecture for Kids. Creative Workshop During School Holidays

Architecture for Kids is an annual workshop initiated and run by Popo Danes Architect and Danes Art Veranda. This youth program designed to introduce children to the field of architecture was first held in 2002. The idea initially came from Popo Dane’s concern for children’s healthy mental development.

Growing expectations of academic performance can put a lot of pressure on young children. Children are often overwhelmed with various subjects. In addition to this, there are extracurricular activities outside of school that must be taken to compete with each other. Popo also expressed another concern. Where he notes that not all children have a good opportunity to go on holiday and have a memorable experience to share with their friends in the new semester. These are some of the concerns that led to the initiation of the Architecture For Kids creative holiday program.

Nurturing Young Talents

Architecture for Kids 2024 is on again this school holiday season to introduce Architecture for the children. This workshop inspires and nurtures children’s creativity by introducing them to the field of architecture in a fun way. Popo Danes has been inspired by the kids who are full of creativity, especially in drawing and creating something. This in turn inspired Popo to introduce the profession of architecture engagingly and creatively for the children. Besides, this activity can allow them to get to know their interests and to see what kind of talent they have. Moreover, this day workshop can stimulate their imagination and give them ideas as to what they want to be in the future. There are approximately 150 children who will take part in this workshop which is being held Saturday, 29th June 2024 at Danes Art Veranda.

Playful Architecture

This year’s theme is encouraging playful architecture. Where kids can be playfully imaginative and engage their perception of space in a fun atmosphere and an educative environment. The workshop is divided into two different sessions. In the first session, the children are introduced to a two-dimensional architectural plan. Whereby they can put their ideas on paper. In the second session, the children are introduced to architectural space. This is with three-dimensional space by a Lego-like box arrangement. Throughout the workshop, they will be guided by the Popo Danes Architect team and the Melati Danes Interior team. At the end of the workshop, the children present their ideas to each other.

Bearing all this in mind it is no surprise it fills the holiday with knowledge and creativity. Architecture for Kids has become a wonderful alternative for children to explore their potential. Not in the least in the field of architecture. Which is still rarely known to children.
