Description
Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum by Sava Larry ‘Istanbul’. Digital collage giclee art print.
This work is part of the ‘Volta’ Digital Collage combined with painting series by street artist Istanbul. He exhibited ‘Imago’ a solo exhibition at Joshua District Artspace in November 2023. The Volta series is a development from his explorations of transferring his street art expressions into different fine art mediums.
Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum is a Latin expression that translates to ‘if you want peace, prepare for war’. An apt expression of the artists’ self-realisation and experience. In his creative process, this is understood in the things that he is prepared to battle with, to sacrifice and to lose, to find his creative peace.
“ To me, art is a powerful tool of interpretation. It is a reflection of the artist’s personality. A simple expression of the complex thought. In this series, the spectrum that represents the object beneath the object, or shapes within lines is not achieved randomly. It arrives through an optical process. You can say it is a process where the mind is trying to find meaning. It is an art form that does not represent an accurate depiction of visual reality. Instead, it is communicating through lines, shapes, colours, forms and gestural marks.” ~ Istanbul
