Description

Learn Balinese Mask Carving. ‘Topeng’ means mask. The art of mask making is one of the oldest traditional art forms in Bali. Many ancient cultures have a tradition in mask making. Often, it is an art that is related to the spirits in Nature and to the Ancestors.

You can learn Balinese mask making step by step with Mask Maker and traditional dancer Kadek Sudiasa. Kadek Sudiasa has been a carver and a musician and dancer from childhood. His love of the sacred masks of Bali led him in recent years to be more involved in the art of mask carving. Sawidji is fortunate to have Kadek Sudiasa available to teach with us.

Classes are by reservation and for any skill level. Whether you are a complete beginner or you are an experienced carver and wish to learn the specifics of the Balinese traditional style of mask carving. Tools and materials are provided within the class.

A class is reccommended to be minimum 2 hours. Located in Mas Ubud, in Sawidji Studio Gallery. A relaxed informal environment to learn with an experienced teacher, at your own pace.
